Classes

Classing Block Elements

The HTML class attribute makes it possible to define equal styles for "equal" <div> elements:

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<style>
div.cities {
    background-color:black;
    color:white;
    margin:20px;
    padding:20px;
}
</style>
</head>
<body>

<div class="cities">
<h2>London</h2>
<p>London is the capital city of England. It is the most populous city in the United Kingdom, with a metropolitan area of over 13 million inhabitants.</p>
</div>

<div class="cities">
<h2>Paris</h2>
<p>Paris is the capital and most populous city of France.</p>
</div>

<div class="cities">
<h2>Tokyo</h2>
<p>Tokyo is the capital of Japan, the center of the Greater Tokyo Area,
and the most populous metropolitan area in the world.</p>
</div>

</body>
</html>

Classing Inline Elements

The HTML class attribute also makes it possible to define equal styles for "equal" <span> elements:

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<style>
span.note {font-size:120%;color:red;}
</style>
</head>
<body>

<h1>My <span class="note">Important</span> Heading</h1>
<p>This is some <span class="note">important</span> text.</p>

</body>
</html>
